About the Art.

Most paintings are acrylicss on canvas, with some mixed-media mixed in.  Meghan hopes to one day be a Childrens Book illustrator, and enjoys painting because it has the ability to make people smile.  The first paintings that she did were created in 2004, when money was scarse. She decided to make her own Christmas presents instead of purchase them.  The gifts went off so well, that she posted a few of them on her MySpace (back when the Comments had just gotten moved off the home page, and Tom really was still in charge.)  She was published in a free independent culture mag from the valley (Self Inflict) within two months, and had her first show within six.  She shows yearly at Comic-Con International (SD) and The Brewery. Her Artwork can be found every now and then at Hot Topic.

About the Artist.
Meghan McMahon lives and works in San Diego, California. She enjoys zombie movies, video games, and long hiking trips. She paints because it makes her giggle, and has been told several times by people who love her very much that she is still twelve at heart. Her dream is to live at Disneyland and yell at people in Splash Mountain dressed as an animatronic emu. Her favorite food is deep fried pickle chips, and her most-used word is banana.

Meghan often shows her work in galleries in the Southern California area, and participates each year at the Brewery's Art Walk and Comic-Con. Her art has made it to several T-shirts and distributed worldwide through Hot Topic. Her fans have described her work as "sickly and wonderful" and "intense, moving, painful and passionate." Her ultimate goal with her art is to write and illustrate her own childrens books.

A few words from the fans:

"Poignant is the word I think of when I see the duality of your work....

agitating, agonizing, bitter, distressing, disturbing, emotional, heart-rending, heartbreaking, impressive, intense, moving, painful, passionate, pathetic, perturbing, piteous, pitiful, sad, sentimental, sorrowful, touching, upsetting....

Since finding you (the artist... hey that's me!) ... I have learned more of you as a person. You are facinating and live an interesting life. You also use your brain and think.

I am glad to have you as a friend."

My extended reaction:

While some awful art critics out there would likely have all kinds of silly, pseudo-connoisseur things to say?  I am not said art critic, and I couldn't even begin to believe that my judgments on such things could be so relevant as to place a value on feelings and creativity that one applies to his or her craft to which any audience would adhere.

That said: it is this one man's opinion (and possibly that of my lady, though she is asleep right now and will see it tomorrow) that your work is very influential and powerful in its own right.  It may be seen by just enough people, but the work is truly great and should be seen by more.  Having met you, I believe that it begins to capture what I've seen on the exterior, as well as whatever bits I may have been able to see past it just from initial observations.  I won't pretend to know you, as my lady and I have only briefly encountered you, but after seeing your work, it almost seems as if we've been friends for some time.  That's quite difficult to explain, and it may sound a little strange or "corny," ... but I'm sure you understand my meaning.
